The word “polished,” in this podcast, means to be rubbed until something is shiny and smooth: “The stone handrails leading up to the monument have been polished by the hands of millions of visitors.” When talking about shoes, “polished” means clean and rubbed with a cream that is the same color as the leather: “It’s a good idea to wear polished shoes whenever you have a job interview.” A person who is “polished” is confident and polite and has good manners: “Wendy is always so polished.
